Tucked away into the most remote section of wonderfully secluded Canyonlands National Park, The Maze is one of the biggest and best of the last: a rarely traveled, wholly inaccessible wilderness. Among the wildest, least trammeled landscapes of size in the continental United States. The Maze’s hypnotic labyrinth, a geologic fusion of cliffs, meandering canyons, and inspiring buttes provide unparalleled riding, folded into a truly unforgettable adventure.
Our journey into this lost land of canyon and High Desert begins with a descent down the historic Flint Trail. The curve of the canyons delivers us in equally fast and spectacular fashion to the Maze Overlook. There, breathtaking beauty beckons us further along our fantastic, self-propelled voyage.
A challenging hike through the heart of The Maze brings us to “The Harvest Scene”: a nearly life-sized series of pictographs. Etched into the narrow sandstone walls, their origin traces back from two to 4,000-years. The next 72-hours begin at a heady 7700-ft., dropping down to 3700-ft, and ultimately a sublime landing on the shores of Lake Powell. We traverse amongst Peregrine falcon aerie and Bighorn sheep habitat in the spectacular Doll House section, then through the Land of the Standing Rocks.
“The Canyonlands provided a spectacular backdrop for our adventure in the Maze. And at the end of each day, Eric and Dan cooked up delicious, healthy meals that were sure to re-energize us for the next day. Working hard/playing hard during the day, wonderful meals and sleeping under the stars,….. does it get any better?” robynfitzg
Bear in mind, access to this outback is severely limited. To hike in and out would easily consume a full two days. But as the only outfitter in the world to offer such an inclusive tour of the Maze, our rugged expedition vehicle is engineered to meet the demands of this area’s extreme terrain. After reaching Lake Powell, a chartered tour plane will ferry our group out of the Maze. Our flight-path takes us back over the course we just conquered on bike and foot, providing once-in-a-lifetime views and aerial photo opportunities.
From incomparable cultural legacies, to moderately challenging cycling terrain, the Maze is rated “E” for everyone. Due to Canyonlands National Park’s use and access guidelines, plus the very nature of the environment here, this trip is limited to seven guests.
Day 1: Meet in Moab. Shuttle to Hans Flat. Ride Flint Trail to Maze Overlook.

Mountain Bike Tour of the Canyonlands Maze District This was a great trip in an amazing area. The guides on our trip, Bobby and Zeke, were first rate- they were very knowledgeable, personable and enthusiastic. This trip is an excellent way to see a very remote and inaccessible place. There are incredible vistas, rock formations and sites to see in the Maze. I recommend this trip, and especially our guides. - Q9445SJdavidd - 5/01/2025
5 Day MTB tour of the Grand Canyon The Maze MTB tour.
The Maze - October '21 This was our second trip with Escape Adventures. We did the White Rim Trail last September and the Maze this October. Once again EA did not disappoint. Our guides, Emily and Dan, were professional, knowledgeable and all around great people. The Maze was challenging and rewarding. I can't wait for next year's adventure - perhaps Aquarius! - E3076FPedwardg - 10/27/2021
Canyonlands Mountain Biking Maze District of Canyonlands National ParkJust completed a 5 day mountain bike/hike around and into "The Maze". This was a fabulous trip, mid May, with challenges of wind, water and sand, pretty standard for the wild west. We just loved the guides (Troy, Will B and Tanner) their support, their cooking and expertise. Received lots of attention and encouragement . Friendly group. The food was better than imagined, all fresh, with lots of fruits and veges, tasty meals, with attention to traveller's needs and detail. Plenty of it. Really delicious! The peace of being completely alone was unbelievable. And the scenery, in every direction, was to behold. This trip was a beautiful, challenging, rare opportunity to experience a part of the world that few people ever see. - Roro - 5/21/2021
Mountain Biking Maze District of Canyonland National Park Very unique experience! The maze area of canyon land is very remote and hard to get to. It is the least visited area of canyonlands national park for this reason, yet it holds some of the most one of a kind views, formations and experiences. Escape adventures, specifically guides Will B. and Carson, provided great guide and support services for this adventure. Everyday was amazing and physically challenging. Will and Carson made sure we had plenty of water and food to keep us going. The food was way better than what you would expect for primative camp sites. The camp sites themselves left you staring out into the park in amazement. The landscape was the star of the show. It was always changing. I woke up excited every morning to see the Sun rise and show the canyons in a new light. Great group of people on this trip. So many laughs and memories I have not stoped talking about this experience. I highly recommend this adventure and Escape Adventures. - Matthew C - 5/17/2021
The Maze Just completed the Escape Adventures The Maze mountain bike adventure in Canyonland’s Maze District. What a fantastic trip in a spectacular landscape! Lunch at the Harvest Scene was my trip highlight. Our guides, Carson Oliver and Will B., were awesome! We had some cool group chemistry and the food was so good. Carson and Will created such a relaxed trip environment. Well done!! - Jeff R - 5/16/2021
Mountain biking in the Maze Just got back from an incredible experience with Escape Adventures riding the Maze in Canyonlands National Park. I can’t praise the guides enough for their attention to eveyone’s enjoyment and also the awesome food. THe trip was incredible due to the beauty of the location and the guidance and laughs from the tour leaders. - katherine h - 5/15/2021
Best way to experience The Maze District / Arches National Park 5 days mountain biking and hiking through the rugged and remote Maze District of Arches National Park. I couldn’t have imagined how impactful this trip would be. May 5-13 gave us perfect conditions. The support crew (Will B. And Carson) were phenomenal. Personable, professional, knowledgeable, encouraging, entertaining and damn hard working. Don’t sign up for this trip hoping to lose weight, Both the guides are culinary camp cuisine wizards, the food was amazing, super healthy and plentiful! Don’t sign up unless you’re seeking a truly rugged and challenging adventure. Do sign up if you’re looking for life long memories, becoming a better human and pushing your physical limits. Can’t say enough about this tour. Be epic. Just go. - Ami W - 5/13/2021
Maze Mtn Bike tour I did the 4 night/5 day tour of the Maze with guides Troy and Will, and it was spectacular. Such amazing scenery and fun riding/hiking in one of the most remote areas I've ever been to - this is for sure the best way to explore Canyonlands! Troy and Will were fantastic guides (and chefs), providing amazing fresh food throughout the whole trip and giving us lots of great tips and tricks for mountain biking, since it was very new to most of us. The bikes themselves were top-notch, the itinerary was well-planned out and had some of the best campsites I've ever been to, and the whole experience made for the perfect week off. Highly recommend to anyone interested in exploring Canyonlands - there is something for everyone on this trip... In addition to the hiking/biking, there's a chance to swim in the Colorado river, see ancient pictographs and a granary, and check out some of the best stars anywhere in the country. Thanks for a great trip, would definitely look for more Escape Adventures trips! - Sophie T - 5/03/2021
The Maze Mountain Bike Tour - Utah The Maze Mountain Biking and Hiking 5 Day Tour - was truly amazing. The Escape Adventure team has put together a well planned and unique tour. The days were well planned and guided throughout. The food was simply exquisite. I ended several days saying - that was the best day riding I've ever had. - jfmummery - 10/11/2020
Maze tour My husband and I participated in the Escape Adventures' Maze tour in Utah in October this year, and it became one of my favorite and most memorable trips. The canyon view throughout the trip was so beautiful and breathtaking. I also loved star gazing I did myself in the middle of the night. Living in New Jersey and working in Manhattan, I have never saw such a beautiful view of tons of stars!I was initially concerned with my fitness level to join the tour. I'm a middle-aged female working long hours during the week and pretty much weekend warrior. I also have not had much experience in the out west. However, the tour guides watched us regularly and set the pace to ensure our safety first. Although we did a lot of hiking and biking throughout the trip, I enjoyed the entire activities without being overwhelmed. The difficulty level for the trip is rated as 2-3 designed for all the level, and I think it is true. And talking about the ad description for the company's trip, they definitely provide First-Class Camping! The guides' cooking skills were superb, and I enjoyed every meal, including appetizers and desserts! In addition, the tour guides were always nice and friendly all the time, even though they must have been so tired. I appreciate their high professionalism and south-west hospitality. I highly recommend this trip for anyone of all the levels. I will definitely plan to join another trip from Escape Adventure for my next vacation! - sanaeniwa - 10/28/2018
Amazing Maze Adventure The Canyonlands provided a spectacular backdrop for our adventure in the Maze. The exciting, yet challenging biking and hiking, made for a rewarding trip. And at the end of each day, Eric and Dan cooked up delicious, healthy meals that were sure to re-energize us for the next day.Working hard/playing hard during the day, wonderful meals and sleeping under the stars,..... does it get any better? - robynfitzg - 10/08/2017
The Maze--mountain bike, hike The guides were SUPER! Pierce and Dan made the trip perfect--they were attentive, helpful, excellent guides, great cooks, and wonderful young men! We can't wait to do another trip with them. The Maze is awe-inspiring. Everyday was a new adventure, and always breath-taking. We didn't want to come home! - Sharon S - 10/08/2017
Maze Mountain Bike Tour Well organized, delightful tour of a beautiful area. Good food, great guides, and nice bikes. We had some issues with the accounting of the deposits, which I am sure will be resolved. Though they were absolutely delightful and competent with taking care of us, I wished the guides had been a little more knowlegible about the flora, fauna and history of the area. - czafren - 10/08/2017
the maze fantastic trip to take in some adventure & amazing scenery, with great support, fantastic food & very experienced guides. This is a trip that gets you back to nature but also challenges you to step out of your comfort zone, every day is a new experience with a different outlook, Make sure you have a good camera as you will nver run out of views that blow you away. - jonathanhC2172YN - 10/01/2017
Maze MTB tour Marvellous. Enough tricky cycling to keep the hard core bikers happy, stunning scenery everywhere, intrepid scrambles to see ancient sites and a snow storm midst the otherwise glorious sunshine. Add to that an attentive and knowledgeable crew and I don't think we could have found a better trip anywhere.Highly recommended. - russellwalmsley - 6/20/2017
The Maze was Amazing! Fantastic multi-day trip to Canyonlands National Park and the Maze District! The itinerary constructed by our guides was diverse and challenging. I loved the mix of hiking, climbing, and riding. Our guides Eric and llama Dan were unbelievably nice and incredibly competant. They made the trip fun and safe. You won't believe how good the meals are while camping out!I love the mountain biking trips by Escape Adventures! - Raymond M - 5/21/2017
Amazing Vacation I've gone on several trips with Escape Adventures, and went on their 'Maze' trip for a second time in April 2017. The day by day itinerary: 30 mile bike, 10 mile hike, bike and hike 10 miles, 25 mile bike, 30 mile bike, plane ride back to the start. The exercise is not too demanding and the mountain biking is just a bit of a challenge for a novice like me. The scenery is spectacular, reaching way into the back of the park and visiting Anasazi ruins and pictographs, the Colorado River at Spanish Bottom, and passing park landmarks such as the Chocolate Drops. Transport is on ranch roads that pre-existed the park. Escape adventures transports camping gear and the two guides provided direction, cooked excellent food, and maintained the bikes (you can bring your own or rent one of their full suspension Stump Jumpers). This is not glamping: google 'your guide to the groover', you sleep in a tent (your own or rented), a solar shower is offered mid-trip, the exercise is not optional. The guides, who work their butts off, depend on your tip to make ends meet, so bring some extra cash. We brought our own wine, and the group of 7 drank a case+. Just an amazing experience, and something completely different from most every other vacation option. - James M - 4/22/2017
Mountain Biking / Hiking the Maze in Canyonlands NP I and 6 friends spent 5 days in Canyonlands NP, with 2 guides (Dan and Ryan) from Escape Adventures. This was a great trip to see a portion of southern Utah that is difficult to access on one's own. We biked about 120 miles over the trip, and hiked about 10 miles through the Maze one day. The scenery was spectacular, the biking had some technical challenges (sand, slickrock), but was definitely doable as the prevailing gradient was downhill. The services provided by Ryan and Dan were excellent. They were knowledgable about the area, took good care of our bikes (and ourselves) when assistance was needed. There was plenty of food, that was varied but also catered to dietary preferences. If you want a wilderness experience, this is an exceptional one. - Allan K - 4/17/2017
Awesome getaway / awesome outfitter Did a 5-day mountain biking trip with Escape Adventures in the Maze section of Canyonlands, which is stunningly beautiful. EA made it perfect...high-quality rental equipment, top-flight guides, delicious food prepared, and a varied and well-planned itinerary that included challenging and cruising biking, as well as great hikes and time to just chill while taking in the breathtaking scenery. The flight at the end of the trip from Lake Powell back to Moab was an added bonus. Fellow guests were like-minded and fun to be with. I would definitely do another trip with EA! - JoMarsh212 - 10/25/2016
Moab Bike/Hike to The Maze - 5 days Our trip was a 5 day overnight bike and hike to the Maze region in Canyonlands National Park for our group of 7. It was fully supported with trucks transporting our camp gear each night. I have done a couple prior tours and this was by far my favorite! I loved everything about this tour including the scenery, gear provided, guides, food, camp locations and logistics. The food they cooked was incredible, and always exceeded my expectations! The split between biking and hiking was perfect. The return even included a small plane flight where we could view all of the places we had just rode/hiked. This trip was a great value. - Dianne P - 11/04/2015
The Maze in Canyonlands (mountain bike and hike) This was my third trip with Escape Adventures. They operate a professional operation and their guides and equipment are very good. Guides Merrick and Tim made this extra special. Great food. The route itself was amazing. I plan to go back again!Kris in Anchorage, AK - ka1915 - 11/04/2015 1.800.596.2953
