Cycling Death Valley Introduction

Death Valley, home to the hottest, driest and lowest points in the country, is a land of subtle beauty and sharp contrast. Delicate tissue-thin flowers emerge from dry lakebeds, bringing contemporary color to the archaic playa. A visit to Badwater allows you can stand at the lowest point on the continent, while viewing one of the highest (Mt. Whitney, elevation 14,400). Hidden high in the hills, much-appreciated desert oases bring an abundance of life to the deceivingly-named Death Valley.

We spend four days exploring the many contradictories of Death Valley National Park by foot and by bike from our base camp below the Funeral Mountains. We add a short visit to Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area to hike a geological wonder, the Keystone Thrust.

This introductory cycling tour provides an easygoing pace and covers less mileage than our standard Death Valley Multi-Sport tour. This makes it a great choice for people who are new to bike touring, and for families who want to tour together.
