Imagine this: You’re cycling down the switchbacks at Canyonlands National Park, winding along the narrow trail that cuts through the cliffs of pink and red sandstone. Picking up speed, you catch yourself laughing into the desert stillness as you zigzag roller-coaster style towards the twinkle of the Colorado River below. Here in this otherworldly landscape, with nothing but an endless stretch of blue sky before you, you feel invigorated, you feel alive.

For experienced cyclist and writer Cass Gilbert, this scenario was more than just an imagined fantasy. A few years ago, Gilbert had the fortunate opportunity to spend four days cycling the famous White Rim Trail in Utah’s Canyonlands National Park. Although he had 15 years of riding experience behind him and had once cycled from Alaska all the way down to Peru, it wasn’t until 2013 that he was able to check off the White Rim Trail from his bike trip bucket list.

In a recent edition of Adventure Cyclist Magazine, Cass Gilbert details his experience on the trail, saying:

“Without a doubt, The White Rim Trail had been among the most memorable tours I’ve enjoyed. To anyone who craves both sublime touring and a deep rooted sense of peace, I’d urge you to visit this magnificent pocket of America’s Southwest.”
