Experience great riding, culture, and cuisine on the Copper Canyon Mountain Bike Tour from Escape Adventures.
Our tour of Copper Canyon, in Northern Mexico’s mountainous interior, reveal and interprets the exceptional beauty around Chihuahua, Mexico’s largest state.
That description extends from indigenous, cliff dwelling people to the rich, neoclassical plazas, palacios, aqueducts and cathedrals, built by Spanish viceroys in the 17th and 18th century.
Our backcountry trails cross and follow those of the Tarahumar endurance runners: into the high, remote landscapes that partially shielded their ancient, reclusive culture from Spanish conquest and assimilation.
Named for the copper and green shades seen in the great span of gorges carved through the Sierra Madre range, Copper Canyon, or barrancas del cobre cuts a larger, deeper figure than our Grand Canyon. In the 10,826-ft Sierras, we find rich watersheds, not to mention wonderful contrasts in ecosystems and landscapes.
The rides and framing environs transit from mountainous green alpine, Mexican Douglas-fir, Pine and Oak highlands to semiarid steppe, plains and valleys. From a plateau that peers onto Mexico’s greatest waterfall we enter the same Chihuahua biome that stretches into New Mexico and Texas.
From these new, undeveloped frontiers in mountain biking, we pursue an equally novel pursuit or personage: that of a magnanimous if not more holistic trekking group.
Put simply: As some of the very few visitors to the oldest villages in Mexico, set deep if not high in the Sierra Madre Mountains we enjoy what can only be described as authentic, spontaneous experiences with the indigenous locals. It’s the lung-expanding vertical that leads to the soul-enriching horizontal.
This one of a kind tour weds deeper experiential travel—personal connection, moments of human relevance, what you cannot create—with exceptional trails that encourage all levels of riders. For more information, click HERE and request a detailed itinerary.
