Overview

Along the valley floor, our tour opens on a ride through the Bridger-Teton National Forest and across open Bull Moose and bison ranges. With no foothills, the Grand Teton Mountains rise sharply from the valley floor. In the distance, the unmistakable whistle of elk pierces the silence. Along our journey, we encounter the area’s numerous natural attractions, including Old Faithful and Yellowstone Lake. At the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone we gaze upon a magnificent waterfall which plunges over a 500-foot striated cliff into a mist-veiled valley.

As we ride alongside the Gros Ventre and Wind River mountain ranges we pedal past tributaries of the Snake River. Here we raft the rapids and experience this big western wilderness in a whole new way. We take a ferry across majestic Jenny Lake, and with an authorized concessioner of the National Park Service, we hike up Cascade Canyon located in the heart of the Tetons and test out our skills on the rock with a beginner rock climbing adventure.

This unique multi-sport adventure focuses on the best outdoor adventures the Tetons have to offer. Additionally, we give you the option to complete each day from either a beautiful camping setting or casual inns tour. Either way, we know you will enjoy!

Day 1 | Antelope Flats. Meet in Jackson. Our adventure launches from Jackson, the phenomenal majesty of the 40-mile long Tetons spread akin to a royal procession, pushed up to the sky’s very edge before our humble tour. Our route stays mostly within the 310,000-acre Grand Teton National Park and the adjoining National Forest. Along with 2.2-million acre Yellowstone National Park, plus adjoining national forests, we’re immersed in, and moreover nurtured by no less than 18-million acres of wilderness. Called the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, our group experiences the world’s largest intact biome or bio network (at mid latitude). Put another way, we’re cycling amidst the largest concentration of big and small mammals in the Lower 48: Wyoming moose to Grizzly bear, wolf, Bison and Bighorn sheep, elk, Black bear, Pronghorn antelope to puma, Mountain goat, otter, Bald eagle, Pine Marten to Marmot. Our ride is smooth and scenic and a great introduction to our week.

Day 2 | Jackson Hole 14-Man White Water Raft Snake River – The coolest thing you’ll do all summer! Today’s adventure takes us to the Snake River. A 1078-mile tributary of the Columbia, the Snake River originates in Wyoming. Discharging 54,830-cubic feet per second (on average), the Snake then carves its way across Southern Idaho. This is the place the legendary Ansel Adams shot his iconic, 1942 black and white image: the Snake River—also called Mad, Shoshone Kimooenim, and Yampapah—bent at a serpent-like hard right beneath the 13,775-ft high Tetons. We plunge through 8 miles of rapids at every turn along the Snake River. Legendary rapids like Big Kahuna, Lunch Counter and Cottonwood are waiting to soak you. After lunch, we’ll relax back in Jackson.

Day 3 | Shadow Mountain and Teton National Park Meet-up late morning in Jackson, at The Inn at Jackson Hole. Departing from the base of the Jackson Hole resort, we’ll shuttle approximately 20-miles north into the 3.4-million acre Bridger-Teton National Forest, America’s third largest national forest (outside Alaska). At the trailside, we’ll enjoy lunch, indulge in informal introductions; then it’s ride time. Our introductory ride in the Tetons unfolds on Shadow Mountain. A 12-mile loop system, Shadow Mountain is rated a four-star/intermediate trail. In terms of profile, Shadow Mountain peaks out at 8213-ft. elevation; we’ll climb 1493-ft, and drop an equal degree. But what you can’t quantify are the unparalleled views of the Tetons, looming just across the Snake River from our route: a phenomenally gorgeous sweep, the shark’s teeth of the Tetons soaring into enormous azure-colored skies Incredibly, Lewis and Clark missed these by turns formidable and frigid mountains, conspicuous for their absence from the famous voyager’s notes and journals. Our treads suffer no such oversight, digging into full figured bank turns and perfectly buffed singletrack on the far end, leading up to a van pickup at the trailhead. With today’s ride complete, we’ll shuttle into the eastern section of 310,044-acre Teton National Park. The latter is home to not only the 2000-lb bison, but also North America’s smallest bird: the Calliope Hummingbird, its weight equivalent to two paper clips. Besides plucky birds to bison herds, if luck is with us we might also sight moose.

Day 4 | Rock Climbing in Tetons Today we take a short shuttle to Jenny Lake in Teton NP. This will be an early morning, because we will be spending a full day in the Teton Backcountry on foot. The adventure starts with a shoe and harness fitting we will take a ferry across majestic Jenny Lake. We will then, with an authorized concessioner of the National Park Service, hike up Cascade Canyon located in the heart of the Tetons. This is where we will get to test out our skills on the rock. You will spend the day climbing routes based on your ability. This program works well and is the most popular for individuals, groups of friends, and families. Leaving Teton National Park, we cross into the 3.4-million acre Bridger-Teton National Forest, the third largest outside Alaska.

Day 5 | Hike Yellowstone After a hearty and superb breakfast, we shuttle into Yellowstone National Park. After a quick stop at West Thumb, we will begin our drive past beautiful Yellowstone Lake. Along Grand Loop Road we pass herds of wild bison and other wildlife. Near Artist Point, we stop to hike two-miles down to the breathtaking Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone River. The roaring splendor of the Upper and Lowers Falls unfolds before us from a canyon overlook, its columns plunging dramatically into the Yellowstone River. A tributary of the Missouri River, the 692-mile long Yellowstone was so named for the yellow sandstone bluffs highlighting the canyon walls. Finally, our day winds down at Old Faithful. Blowing every 44 to 125-minutes, Old Faithful’s cone geyser reaches a height of 106 to 185-ft. Finishing out the day we cross over the Continental Divide then shuttle back to Gros Ventre.

Day 6 | Munger Mountain Our final ride could be defined as something of a victory lap: a triumphal celebration of an epic Teton tour, though via the throttle back, super enjoyable Munger Mountain loop. Rated between 4.2 and a full 5/5, Munger Mountain, reduced to a schematic unfolds akin to a figure eight. Topo-wise, Munger is spiked by two climbs. Peaking out at 7100-ft., we’ll gain 1500-ft. of climbing, while dropping 1400-ft. before resolving into some short, more techie stretches. This network looms south of Jackson and Wilson, offering an a la carte selection of additional loops. Emerging from big, dense Pine and Aspen groves between a beautiful blur of high meadows, we’ll enjoy lunch alongside the trail. Then its closeout time, shuttling back to Jackson, a van full of dirt heroes: all ear-to-ear smiles, softening lines around the eyes, trading and sharing their respective “best” moments.

CAMPING INFORMATION: If you’re among our camping tour contingent, we’ll be staying at the Atherton campground along Lower Slide Lake, a wildly scenic if superb habitat for Spotted cutthroat trout and Mountain Whitefish within the Bridger-Teton National Forest. We’ll base at 7,000-ft, alongside the two-mile long by half-mile wide lake. A landslide on the Gros Ventre River created the latter in June 1925, when 50-million cubic yards of earth gave way. Only 15-minutes from the Grand Targhee resort, Atherton not only affords great wildlife viewing—predominantly elk and moose—but the kind of solitude that’s rare at National Forest campgrounds.

We choose well-maintained public campgrounds with scenic vistas and comfortable arrangements. You’ll move seamlessly from one day of your trip to the next, camping outdoors and enjoying wildly healthy, delicious homemade meals.

The majority of our selected campgrounds feature indoor facilities and showers. Conversely, in more remote backcountry camping scenarios, we’ll provide portable toilets and private solar showers.

Camping gear may be rented or you may bring your own. All of our camping gear is tested and hand-chosen from top manufacturers to ensure you get a good nights’ sleep. All-Inclusive Prices

All internal land expenses and services are covered in the cost of your tour. This means from the time we pick you up at our meeting point, until we drop you back off to head home, all transportation, food preparation, meals (except where noted on itineraries), snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, group supplies and community gear (portable chairs, large awnings, coolers, utensils, etc.) are included. Backcountry permits, licenses, park fees, reservations, and accommodations (lodging) are also included, along with at least two professionally trained trip leaders, a mobile first aid and mechanic station, spare bikes, and a support vehicle(s). Trip price does not include airfare, lodging prior to trip start or bicycle rental and/or camping gear (if on a camping tour) unless otherwise noted on itinerary or website.

Renting Bicycles

Not only do we run an international bike tour business, but we also own and operate two premiere bicycle stores – www.LasVegasCyclery.com and www.MoabCyclery.com. We have learned over the years that every cyclist is different and prefers different types of bikes for different types of terrain. That is why we offer the best bicycles for rent in the business. If for some reason you are not happy with the quality of your rental, we will refund the cost of your entire bike rental. If you are bringing your bike with you, check with your airline’s baggage policy in advance and be sure to pack your bike accordingly. If you are shipping your bike to your destination, confirm the address with our office and allow enough time for your bike to arrive. We’re happy to help you ship your bike. Whatever you need to get the most out of your tour, we are here to make it happen.

By choosing to rent a bike from us, we will fit you with the newest, highest quality gear in the industry. Escape Adventures provides only high-end bicycles from Specialized. We replace our rental fleet each season to ensure all our rentals meet our high standards. All of our mountain bikes are equipped with full suspension frames and disc brakes designed for a smooth, comfortable ride. For those who are touring with a companion who may not be as fit or need a little help up the hills, we now have electric mountain bikes (electric pedal assist) available on select tours. Having custom-made vehicles allows us to take you to places few other outfitters can, or will go. Every Escape Adventures tour is accompanied by at least one support vehicle, trailer, and in some cases a second and third transfer van. After purchase, we custom engineer our trucks, vans, and trailers by our on-staff mechanic to meet the unique needs of different tours. For example, certain trucks are specifically designed for The White Rim and The Maze, while others are designed for The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Each of our guides is required to be trained in safe vehicle operation, 4X4 driving, and basic maintenance. Food is a big part of the Escape Adventures experience. Our guides prepare all of your meals on our camping trips. Expect three delicious meals a day consisting entirely of freshly prepared foods. These include fresh organic fruits and vegetables as well as meats. We also have energy snacks aboard our support vehicles. Don’t be surprised if your guides purchase fresh fruits and healthy snacks throughout the day while you are out riding. They may just show up on the trail with a local treat! Many of our guests are vegans or vegetarians, whom we are more than happy to accommodate. If you have special diet requirements or limitations, just let us know when you sign-up and we’ll work with you to meet your needs.

Didn’t want to leave!! Grand Teton / Yellowstone was amazing!! We have done 25 bike tours, abd we loved it! Could have stayed at least another week! Scenic, flat riding at the base of the Grand Tetons, with easy access to Jenny and Jackson Lakes, amazing wildlife and dining back in Jackson. Yellowstone is amazing, and being able to bike past lines of cars gives you time to see (and smell) more! Morgan and Emily were quick on their feet to adapt to weather and riders while making us delicious lunches and feeling welcomed. Grand Tetons multisport mountain biking adventure The trip was amazing. Several days of mountain biking with rock climbing and whitewater rafting in between. The guides, Matt and Will B were helpful, friendly, funny, and really good cooks! Definitely the best food I've eaten on a camping trip.

They went out of their way to customize the trip for me. Matt even took me on a couple of extra rides after the others were ready to stop for the day. That was deeply appreciated.

Grand Teton/Yellowstone Multisport Trip So Escape Adventures created a custom 6-day multisport trip for myself and 4 other guys. Both the company and our two guides, Merrick and Tori, were absolutely top notch. No complaints whatsoever. The guides were genuinely nice/enjoyable to be around and were very knowledgeable and patient. All meals were provided and our guides were excellent cooks as well. During our 6 days, we got in three days of mountain biking, an evening of horseback riding at the Mill Iron Ranch, half day whitewater rafting on Snake River, tram ride at Jackson Hole mountain resort with hiking and waffles on top of the mountain, a 16-18 mile hike in the Grand Tetons from Jenny Lake to Lake Solitude, and a full day at Yellowstone. We stayed at the Gros Ventre campsite just outside Jackson Hole each night using rental gear from the company. All camping gear and the Stumpjumper rental bikes were in great shape.
