Overview

Soaring red stone spires and ancient citadels of rich Navajo sandstone give way to haunting hoodoos and curving arches of rock, a geologist’s and adventurer’s dream come true. Located where the Southern Wasatch Range meets the Colorado plateau, scientists call this a “super-sequence”: a vast series of massive, high altitude islands that rise above the Four Corners region. Welcome to Utah’s Color Country.

Nonetheless scientists aren’t the only ones carried away by this area. Owing to the largest concentration of parklands in North America, plus fast, narrow trails, this is no less than a mountain biker’s paradise, as well. The rides here pack as many scenic attributes as they are fat tire fab: swift lines that wind and wend through deep Alpine meadows and Aspen forests only to spill out, in spectacular fashion, onto yawning mesas and buttes. The world famous trails of Red Canyon’s Thunder Mountain, Cassidy and Casto Canyon, symbolize but a few of this tour’s many highlights.

At the historically remote, though internationally acclaimed 229-square mile Zion National Park, we marvel at huge sandstone monoliths that lord over 2,000-ft. deep canyons. One hundred and fifty million years of geologic time is suspended here: the shallow seas and near shore environs of the Mesozoic Era, or Age of the Reptiles, set in the park’s gloriously layered sandstone stacks.

At Bryce Canyon, most days afford no less than a 90-mile view to Navajo Mountain and the Kaibab Plateau, respectfully, in Northern Arizona. Though on especially clear days, the Black Mesas of eastern Arizona and western New Mexico come into view. Despite its name, Bryce is not actually technically a canyon, but rather a series of 14 magnificent amphitheatres 1,000 feet deep, each lined with rock sculptures. Stargazers will enjoy a 7.3-magnitude night sky; this means you’ll be able to see upwards of 7500 stars without a telescope! Compare that to the big city norm of maybe a few dozen.

Last but certainly not least is Brian Head. During the dry-season, Utah’s highest ski resort transitions into one of the premiere mountain bike parks anywhere. In fact, Bicycling Magazine’s reader poll placed Brian Head’s Bunker Creek trail in its top 5 American fat tire trails.

All-Inclusive Prices

All internal land expenses and services are covered in the cost of your tour. This means from the time we pick you up at our meeting point, until we drop you back off to head home, all transportation, food preparation, meals (except where noted on itineraries), snacks, non-alcoholic beverages, group supplies and community gear (portable chairs, large awnings, coolers, utensils, etc.) are included. Backcountry permits, licenses, park fees, reservations, and accommodations (lodging) are also included, along with at least two professionally trained trip leaders, a mobile first aid and mechanic station, spare bikes, and a support vehicle(s). Trip price does not include airfare, lodging prior to trip start or bicycle rental and/or camping gear (if on a camping tour) unless otherwise noted on itinerary or website.

Renting Bicycles

Not only do we run an international bike tour business, but we also own and operate two premiere bicycle stores – www.LasVegasCyclery.com and www.MoabCyclery.com. We have learned over the years that every cyclist is different and prefers different types of bikes for different types of terrain. That is why we offer the best bicycles for rent in the business. If for some reason you are not happy with the quality of your rental, we will refund the cost of your entire bike rental. If you are bringing your bike with you, check with your airline’s baggage policy in advance and be sure to pack your bike accordingly. If you are shipping your bike to your destination, confirm the address with our office and allow enough time for your bike to arrive. We’re happy to help you ship your bike. Whatever you need to get the most out of your tour, we are here to make it happen.

We rent high-quality camping gear for all of our camping tours. These include a tent, sleeping pad, raised cot, sleeping bag, sleeping bag liner, full size pillow, and ground tarp. Your Trip Leaders will always help to ensure your equipment is set up properly each night.

Mountain Bike Rentals

Make your trip as comfortable as possible on the body, as simple as possible for traveling, and hassle free on tour. By choosing to rent a bike from us, we will fit you with the newest, highest quality gear in the industry. Escape Adventures provides only high-end bicycles from Santa Cruz and Specialized. We replace our rental fleet each season to ensure all our rentals meet our high standards. All of our mountain bikes are equipped with full suspension frames and disc brakes designed for a smooth, comfortable ride. For those who are touring with a companion who may not be as fit or need a little help up the hills, we now have e-bikes (electric pedal assist) available on select tours.
For multi-sport tours, daily bike rental fees are charged on mountain biking days only.

Specialized Full Suspension Mountain Bike ($70/day)

This new Specialized Full Suspension bike is the best bang for your buck! This bike features 140 mm of front and rear travel, which is plenty of cushion to soak up any bump in the trail. The Best Support Vehicles

Having custom-made vehicles allows us to take you to places few other outfitters can, or will go. Every Escape Adventures tour is accompanied by at least one support vehicle, trailer, and in some cases a second and third transfer van. After purchase, we custom engineer our trucks, vans, and trailers by our on-staff mechanic to meet the unique needs of different tours. For example, certain trucks are specifically designed for The White Rim and The Maze, while others are designed for The Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. Each of our guides is required to be trained in safe vehicle operation, 4X4 driving, and basic maintenance. Our experienced guides make it look easy, transporting you and up to 12 guests, along with their bikes, fresh food, camping gear and plenty of drinking water to a remote location.

Food is a big part of the Escape Adventures experience. Our guides prepare all of your meals on our camping trips. Expect three delicious meals a day consisting entirely of freshly prepared foods. These include fresh organic fruits and vegetables as well as meats. We also have energy snacks aboard our support vehicles. Don’t be surprised if your guides purchase fresh fruits and healthy snacks throughout the day while you are out riding. They may just show up on the trail with a local treat! Many of our guests are vegans or vegetarians, whom we are more than happy to accommodate. If you have special diet requirements or limitations, just let us know when you sign-up and we’ll work with you to meet your needs.

Kick Ass Mountain Biking...not for the faint of heart. Excellent, excellent, excellent! We did Escape's 5 day tour of Zion and Bryce National Parks. The biking was challenging, but our guides were there the entire time to support and encourage us. The meals were. better than most good restaurants.

My only word of caution is to take the fitness and skills requirements seriously. This was not the right sort of trip for someone who is looking to 'see the scenery, drink some wine and kick back." IF this is what you are looking for, you are better advised to go with another group.

However, if you want a kick ass mountain biking experience with guides who are among the best, you've come to the right place.

One last note - the title may be deceiving - we did not cycling in Bryce or Zion National Parks, as that is not allowed. Most of our time was spent in Red Rocks Canyon or near Duck Creek Village, two beautiful parts of the world between Zion and Bryce. Amazing in every way Our modified trip due to fire closure of Grand Canyon of the Bryce Canyon area was amazing! My wife and I are mostly road cyclists and were nervous since the change went from double track and jeep road with some single track to mostly single track. This trip certainly pushed our limits but in very appreciated ways. I personally faced elements that I normally would not (and rode them) but there were some that I simply had to walk. I will never forget Thunder Mountain! The ride was tough for this MTB newbie but the views were amazing and worth it. Our guides (Carson, Will B, & Matt) were fantastic. They knew the right amount to push, to teach, they entertained, and most of all they rocked the cooking! We were thankful for a "hike day" to rest and an easier trail the last day to boost our confidence! They certainly set the bar very high for our first mountain bike tour! Carson recommend we try the White Rim since our road riding endurance is setup for longer mileage and less technical riding. We plan to followup on his advice and hope we have the chance to ride again with our new friends! - Bryan P - 7/10/2021

Bryce Canyon Mountain Bike Tour We had five of us Kentuckians who originally booked the North Rim of the Grand Canyon Mountain Bike Tour, but at the last minute, there were fires in that area and Escape Adventures (EA) offered us the option of cancelling or changing to their Bryce Canyon tour. We are so glad we decided to accept the change! We were joined by a fun guy from New Jersey, giving us a nice sized group of six riders, and we had THREE guides who catered to our every need -- Will B, Carson and Matt. These guys were rock stars in giving us a fun tour. They were smart, funny and unbelievably hard-working. They could also flat COOK and we enjoyed a wide variety of made-from-scratch meals, complete with appetizers and desserts. It's a good thing we were well-nourished, because we found the biking to be quite challenging for our experience and fitness levels (take EA's rating system with a grain of salt, LOL). However, the guys constantly helped and encouraged us, and even offered a lot of good coaching. They went so far as to customize the daily trails for us so we wouldn't get too far out of our comfort zones. Although some of the routes were pretty darn technical (lots of Hike-A-Bike), the SPECTACULAR views we enjoyed were worth all the effort. EA provided excellent, high-end rental bikes for our use, and Will B, Carson and Matt made sure they fit us well and were operating properly. The camping kit was good stuff, as well. The tour van was comfortable and we had all kinds of soft drinks and snacks to get us through the tough riding. But, the most memorable parts of this tour were 1) the awesome scenery, and 2) the three great tour guides who worked so hard to make sure we had a good time. Bryce and Zion Single Track This was my eleventh mtn. bike trip with Kaibab/Escape Adventures. I would like to commend the guides, Tim and Kevin, for a well managed trip experience. On our fifth day we had some adversity due to rain that required flexibility and inventiveness to overcome. Tim was more than up to the task and we almost did not miss a beat. He is a professional. Go with the pros My wife and I did the 6 day Bryce/Zion Mountain Bike/Hiking tour with Escape Adventures, and I would give the trip 6 stars out of 5. We were a group of 6, with an age span of 45y, and a wide range of biking ability, and our 2 guides, Tim and Kevin, managed to accommodate all of us. They were constantly evaluating what the best options would be for each of us, and we rode PHENOMENAL trails. Everything in the offering was top-notch, from the bikes, to the spotless, spacious van, to the selection of campgrounds and the meals during the tour. Most of the times, the trail started and ended right at the campground, and we had minimal transfer time. All was done to maximize the biking/hiking time. Our guides went above and beyond our expectations. As an example, they had a spare bike that one of the guests used after her own bike broke. The exceptional scenery, trail length, knowledge and riding skills of our guides made up for a perfect vacation. This is our 2nd time with Escape Adventures, and we look at them as being best in class. The day starts with an early cold breakfast, as early as 6am, then a full, hot breakfast around 7am, followed by a morning ride/hike until lunch time. Ample snacks, bars, water is provided for the rides. Afternoon/evening rides follow, then a 3-course dinner made from scratch, and a good night of sleep under the stars.
